WHY COUNSELING
Some people are drawn to this type of deep healing work because they have an awareness inside that it is time to make some fundamental changes in their lives. Others are drawn to this work because they have run out of options to function effectively in their lives. Although the healing process continues throughout life, therapy can assist you in getting started on this journey. I work extensively with the Myers-Briggs Type-Indicator (MBTI) and Enneagram personality typing systems to identify both a client's core self (MBTI) and their defensive structure (Enneagram), and also incorporate Body Centered Gestalt Therapy and inner child work practices to therapy with clients.
WHAT IS COUNSELING
Most therapy is cognitive or talk therapy. This type of therapy aims to look at people’s thoughts around events in their life and point out errors in thinking or distorted thoughts, also addresses behavior modification.
The limitation of this approach is that it does nothing to address the pain caused by wounding messages early in life, which is a necessary process for healing. When old emotional buttons get pushed, the defense system automatically looks for ways to protect the person against pain. The defensive system in the right side of the brain does not respond to reason.

Peace...it does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work; rather, it means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart. -Unknown
Affective therapy operates by accessing the right side of the brain. This is the place where these old wounding messages are stored. Many people try to avoid looking at pain left over from childhood. They say things like “it’s all behind me now, why look at the past” or “I need to just forgive and move on”. The problem is that just because we want these feelings to go away does not mean they will. They must be expressed and end up manifesting themselves in our present day lives and relationships in the form of addictions, compulsions, substance abuse, depression, anxiety, work-aholism, infidelity, smoking, eating, eating disorders, and illnesses until we do attend to them once and for all. |

Group Therapy
This is a therapeutic group for those individuals who are interested in starting deep emotional healing therapy based upon Body Centered Gestalt Therapy and inner child work practices. Many individuals are seeking deep emotional healing and recovery from disruptive or destructive patterns in their lives. They may not be able to afford individual therapy or prefer to heal in the group setting. Although 1 on 1 therapy is recommended to bring about the most expedient fundamental and lasting change in one's life, this group will provide an opportunity to begin the process of recovering from unhealthy or destructive coping techniques and patterns in a group setting.
Visual JournalingUSING IMAGES TO GO DEEPER THAN WORDS
This 6 week course is designed to help you learn how to move beyond thought and words into feelings and intuitive knowledge...even if you can't draw! Emotions repressed from our past remain stored away in our bodies and can cause physical symptoms of varying severity, including depression, panic or fear, even intense reactions towards our children, partners or loved ones. Often, just the act of getting in touch with how something really feels inside your body -- rather than how you think it feels -- is enough to offer a sense of relief and bring about great changes in our lives and relationships.
